The Secret Language of Shape and Taste

Workshop
Curated by Lift
Fri, Feb. 12 2016 - 09:00 to 11:00
Room 14, level 2

The escalating noise of today's technology-driven media conceals an unspoken language — familiar yet elusive to the untrained eye. Soraia Binzagr (soraia.is) and Chris Solarski (Solarski Studio) will explore the aesthetic language perceived through our senses and how it covertly informs the way in which we interact with each other and the physical and virtual spaces around us.

Chris will begin by introducing a series of design concepts developed for shaping emotions in video games, before guiding participants through playful exercises that explore physical gestures, environments, and movement. Soraia will then invite participants to a unique chocolate tasting experience to examine the effects of flavour and form on our perceptions and emotions.

Through these playful and sense-tickling exercises, participants will learn to perceive the secret language's ability to shape our emotions in daily life through disciplines as varied as interpersonal communication, game design, corporate branding, user experience and interior design.

Interactivity

Participants will explore the shape concept as applied to game design through a series of collaborative, hands on exercises using physical gesture enactment and movement within the workshop space.

Participants will then be invited to a chocolate tasting session where they can translate the same principles of shape into a taste-based experience in order to create their own flavour to emotion representation language.

Target audience: anyone with an interest in game design, interactive design, gustatory explorations, data interpretation, use of senses in technology. No specific skills required.
