On Friday, February 6, 2015, we will officially launch the worlwide, online Data Canvas: Sense Your City competition. Join us to discover the project, the rules of the competition and the prizes that we have prepared for the future winners.

Data Canvas: Sense Your City is a media network that promotes public education around civic issues. Our cities are now sentient, giant collectors and emitters of data. This data resource often goes unused, unnoticed and un-understood by citizens. Data Canvas invites discovery and interaction because it is a shared experience, as streets and cities always have been.

100 people in 7 cities have built their own DIY environmental sensors and measure air quality, noise, pollution, light and temperature in: Geneva, San Francisco, Shanghai, Rio de Janeiro, Bangalore, Singapore and Boston.

Come to Lift15 and explore the living world map, dive in, and see in real-time what air people are breathing.

Gray Area, swissnex San Francisco and Lift teamed up again after a great first challenge in 2013 on public transportation. On February 6th, 2015, we will open the data streams from all 100 sensors, and launch the second Data Canvas visualization challenge. We invite designers, makers, hackers, artist, data scientists, urbanists, students and citizens to use the data and create powerful visualizations. Stay tuned!
